Beyond The Gate
03:29
|
|||
Hello, good evening and welcome
To what you'll soon call your home from home
If you're looking for new friends, you're in the right place
You have the look of a man of impeccable taste
What lies beyond the gate?
Oh I’d look myself, but the hour’s late
What lies beyond the gate?
Behind that door, what awaits...?
We enjoy a fine reputation (I think)
So, what'll it be, by way of a drink? (bottoms up, old chum, drink, chin chin!)
Our selection of ales, ciders, beers is second to none (when all is said and done)
And our shorts are splendid,
From whisky to rum (roll out the barrel, a barrel of fun)
What lies beyond the gate?
Oh I’d look myself, but is it worth the wait?
What lies beyond the gate?
Behind that door where drunken poets hold sway…

The fallen ones live in denial, chasing dreams built on false hope
Hypnotised with painted smiles, sliding down an upward slope
Whispered words and misplaced trust disguise untruths for real
Down at heel, from bone to stardust, numb to all you feel
Round and round and upside down
The world remains the same
Down and out and inside out
And no one there to blame
Drowning out the same old sounds
Can't find you in the rain
Bringing down the house of cards
Calling out your name
Victory has a thousand fathers
But defeat is an orphan, all alone
Hang out our banners on the outward walls
I go to bed and sleep the sleep of the saved and thankful
Round and round and upside down
A world that's not the same
Down and out and inside out
And no one else to blame
Drowning out the same old sounds
And running through the rain
Bringing down the house of cards
Crying out your name
You must think you’re some kind of magician
Casting spells to forge a state of mind
All the world’s a stage but you failed the audition
This thing of darkness - I acknowledge mine
From heartbreak to sorrow, betrayal to grief
There’s nothing to lose when you beggar belief
All the promises broken through sleight of hand
A curtain wide open, draw a line in the sand
Round and round and upside down
Our world isn’t the same
Down and out and inside out
There’s no one left to blame
Drowning out the same old sounds
Fight against the rain
Bringing down the house of cards
Screaming out your name
Behind the times, hold our own
Hold the line, don’t stand alone
Dark is the night, bronze and gold
Shine a light, the story told
It won't take long
Wipe those tears
It’s all played out
There’s nothing to see here
Nothing to be here
Nothing to fear
Now you are free

Guarded Secret
14:04
|
|||
The guarded secret lies in the corners of my mind
Eroding sincerity, our feelings entwined
Searching for the fragile key, digging for the sound
Of the guarded secret, deeper down, deeper down
Don’t ask me why truth is so blind
Screaming silence cries to mute an eloquent lie
A rising tide, tick, tock, tongue-tied
Deaf, dumb, unkind and home to see a promise denied
Eyeless and perverse, darker than the ebony key
Our hidden curse, the guarded secret’s decree to me
Preying on your every fear, it will emerge from the night
Making shades of grey from what was black and white
Before the dreamless sleep and through your fragile tears
Drawing bated breath, the secret ever near
You look back on your life, a flashback in slow motion
It’s just a moment in time, a tale of devotion
Searching for that fragile key, digging for the sound
Of the guarded secret deeper down, deeper down
Don’t ask me why I’m losing my mind
Deep inside, violence, the honesty that I can’t find
Lost in rhyme, cross words, white lies
Cryptic headlines gone to where reality bites
Spineless introvert, darker for the lies and deceit
Our hidden world, guarded secret’s decree to me
There's no hiding on your own
Guarded secret mine alone
Hold it so close, until the end of the world
Something you don't know, that you'll never learn
A promise I made long ago
I'll be keeping my peace
Until my body's release
Nobody knows what I can’t let go
Try to keep you out of harm’s way
Deny a love that has no name
A man condemned to never tell can't tell them, can’t tell them
The taste of fear, to spill a tear, the rise of inner strength
That thirst will burn and then will quench with pure release
Can't tell them, can’t tell them the secret of the sign
I can't tell them the secret of the rhyme
The guarded secret

We all know time is an illusion
But still rules our lives
But we know, know so well
Where we are going
Please somebody tell me why
The stars are so beautiful and so bright
Yet we never look to the night
Never to the night
You’d have thought we’d grown beyond
Taking somebody’s life
But their dream of paradise
Can only be a dream
Could you find your little place where...
People aren’t too beautiful and they’re not so bright
Will they give you everything without a fight?
If you look too long, none of us are so beautiful
In this dream of sweet illusion, there is no paradise
We all stumble along where…
The stars are so beautiful and so bright
And we all look to the night
We look to the night
We all know time is an illusion
But it still rules our lives
But we know, know so well
Where we are going
Please somebody tell me why

Compound The Problem

|

Tabloid feeling steals your sigh
While the Baron enjoys the piste
Network news worship sensation
As we serenade the Z list
Ice cream delusion shattered
As she dances on another bar
Scarecrows thieve her youth
As she glides down another Vodka
So high above us all
She dances between a teacher and a child
Set loose by the hands of a priest
She’d forgo that freedom to be wild
Print the atom, split the word
News cannibals feed on your soul
You protest too much
But the mighty press still rolls
Feeling so, so much cleaner
We waltz through the trees
A pretty debutante straightens her gown
As she falls to her knees
So high above us all
She dances between a teacher and a child
Set loose by the hands of a priest
She’d forgo that freedom to be wild
Intellectual magazines manage the drug
And we spin without an action
Oh, we type a sentence sharper
Probing for a reaction
Angry relatives storm the palace
Laughing and safe on high
As Baron kisses his flawless mistress
Smiling down content on the masses
So high above us all
She dances between a teacher and a child
Set loose by the hands of a priest
She’d forgo that freedom to be wild

Secret Garden
12:32
|
|||
In the castle wild, I roll on my back
Under skies by the ancient track
Hidden by ferns, her riches, my rags
She’s soft and so kind, hair shining black
These ruined walls cloaked by ivy and weeds
Old and slighted, perfect for our needs
I know I’m history when the silken rope
Cuts my skin, pulls me close
Oh I loved her when she caught my eye in the shade of the tree
She smiles down and takes me (to our dreamland)
She smiles down and makes me (makes me understand)
And now I see (she’s the promised land)
Living sweet abandon, caught in our secret garden
Living sweet abandon, caught in our secret garden
And the wind blows in the wild, wild wood
And the wolf howls on this moonlit summer’s night
I’ll dance to your tune like I hunger for you now
So if music is the food of love, play on
Lying there naked, drifting in and out of reverie
As a mistral blows our minds across the land and sea
Where our love sleeps beneath the waves
Like trees crying leaves upon forgotten graves
We come back down under blood red skies
The light in her hair of Aine’s sunrise
A world without end comes, then is gone
Lost in one another, we would never have known
Oh, how I loved her when she caught my eye in the shade of the tree
She smiles down and takes me (to our dreamland)
She smiles down and makes me (makes me understand)
And still I see (she’s the promised land)
Living sweet abandon, caught in our secret garden
Living sweet abandon, caught in our secret garden
What’s in your mind is all you can dream
And all that you try is there to achieve
When all that you hide is all you can be
Then what makes you blind is easy to see
Now I’ve found you I can’t let you go
I’ll be at your side for the rest of our lives
One moment of truth on one fine day
Defines who we are and the love we make
All that I know is the harvest you sow
Now I’m with you I can’t let you go
And on with the show into a future unknown
We think our lives are so full and so fine
But you know the modern world’s put a veil on our minds
Out of touch and out of sight
So many things we don’t see anymore and so much we don’t feel
When paradise is a heaven on earth where you complete me
I believe in happy endings, I believe in fairy tales
I believe in knights in shining armour riding to the rescue
And that’s you...

Hail fellow, well met stranger
We’re so glad that you stayed till the bitter’s end
Did you enjoy your evening in our good company?
One for the road, sir? This one’s on me
What lies beyond the gate?
It’s the ringing of the bell, three cheers, it’s late!
What lies beyond the gate?
You might find yourself
